Introducing Dr. Lambert
Kevin Lambert, Psy.D., is a Texas licensed psychologist with a sincere passion for developing others and fostering healthier & happier relationships. Dr. Lambert’s unique style of intervention has been described by clients as genuine, warm, respectful, innovative, fun, enlightening, and appropriately challenging. Dr. Lambert’s clinical specialties include couples therapy; child & family therapy; personal & family life transitions (such as divorce & grief); identity & career development; and spirituality/faith issues. He serves as the clinical lead for One Community Church’s four-day marriage intensive, an immersive program for couples on the brink of divorce. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Lambert also enjoys providing executive coaching, organizational consultation, and a wide variety of dynamic workshops for leaders, teams, and organizations.
Training the Next Generations of Clinicians
Beyond his own caseload, Dr. Lambert devotes himself full-time to developing clinicians. He supervises Great Life Counseling Center’s advanced doctoral practicum students, predoctoral interns, and postdoctoral fellows, each of whom practices and bills under his license or the license of a supervisor he has trained and continues to mentor— which means that every family who works with a GLCC trainee has a licensed psychologist accountable for their care. GLCC’s training curriculum is built on a framework Dr. Lambert developed and is now completing as a book, The Psychotherapist’s Formation: Philosophy, Bias, and the Examined Position (currently in editorial review). The framework asks a question most training programs leave unspoken: how does a therapist identify the assumptions already shaping his or her clinical judgment, and what does it take to hold a theoretical position deliberately rather than by default? Trainees at GLCC are taught to name what is wrong, what maintains it, what they intend to do about it, and what would tell them they are wrong — and they are held to that standard in supervision every week.
Education and Career Background
Dr. Lambert’s interest in the field of psychology began at the young age of 12 and never wavered. He pursued that interest at Illinois State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in sociology in 1999, and continued at Spalding University’s School of Professional Psychology, earning his M.A. & Psy.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology in 2003 & 2006. His doctoral research developed a premarital program for faith communities — an early expression of the interest in relationships, values, and practical intervention that still shapes his work today. Dr. Lambert’s professional experience includes work with children and families at what is now Centerstone Kentucky, a pre-doctoral fellowship at Salesmanship Club Youth & Family Centers, Inc. (now known as Momentous Institute, Inc.), and focused couples training through an externship at Southwestern Medical Center’s Family Studies Center. He then spent nearly 10 years as a senior staff member & supervisor at Southern Methodist University’s health and counseling center, where he treated individuals and couples, conducted evaluations, and supervised trainees.
In Fall 2011, Dr. Lambert completed his MBA degree from SMU’s Cox School of Business, where he was recognized as a Distinguished Business Leader and member of the Dean’s Circle. In January 2012, he founded Lambert Psychology, PLLC, which has evolved into what is now known as Great Life Counseling Center — a multi-clinician practice offering psychotherapy, psychological assessment, executive coaching, consultation, and workshops.
Service and Recognition
Dr. Lambert has been appointed an Overseer of One Community Church in Plano by its founding and senior pastor, Dr. Conway Edwards, serving among those charged with oversight of the church and its leadership. He has also volunteered on the board of directors for Galaxy Counseling Center, where he was elected Chairman and President, and served four years on the executive committee of the Dallas Psychological Association as Treasurer, President-Elect Designate, and President-Elect. In recognition of excellence in his contributions to the field of psychology in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Dr. Lambert was awarded the 2023 Distinguished Psychologist of the Year by the Dallas Psychological Association.
