INTRODUCING DR. CARR

Dr. Jarice Carr is a Texas-based licensed psychologist with a relational, person-centered, and holistic approach to therapy. Dr. Carr is inherently collaborative in her approach and seeks to create a non-judgmental and affirming environment in which her clients’ strengths, cultural context, and values are highlighted, respected, and honored. Dr. Carr believes that you are the expert on your lived experience and she seeks to provide support and tools to assist you in working toward your goals. Her therapeutic approach is primarily relational-cultural and psychodynamic while often integrating skills from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, EMDR, family systems, and mindfulness to enrich the therapeutic experience and tailor therapy to your goals.

Dr. Carr’s interests include cultural identity concerns, trauma, women’s issues, depression, family and couples’ concerns, life adjustment, stress management, and identity exploration. She also has a special interest in working with clients who identify as Black, Indigenous, and Women of Color and LGBTQ+ Black, Indigenous, People of Color, as well as clients who are experiencing intergenerational trauma and first-generation college students and young professionals.

Education and Career Background

Dr. Carr received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Texas following completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at the University of North Carolina Charlotte Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) in Charlotte, NC. She also completed a post-doctoral fellowship with a focus on Diversity and Inclusion related clinical work and programming at UNC Charlotte CAPS. Upon completion, she joined staff for almost 4 years first as a licensed psychologist and then as the Assistant Director of Outreach and Community Engagement before transitioning to Great Life Counseling Center. She has experience with a culturally diverse clientele providing therapy to adolescents, adults, groups, couples, and families in a wide range of settings including private practice, college counseling centers, and community outpatient clinics.

Dr. Carr is a Licensed Psychologist (LP) with the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (TX License #39322; Expires 1/31/2024).
