As a culturally minded therapist, Dr. Ellis values and respects all identities and strives to create a safe and inclusive space where every individual feels understood and supported. Dr. Ellis\u2019 therapeutic style is characterized by high levels of warmth and collaboration, prioritizing safety and authenticity to create a unique and powerful client-therapist relationship. Through this relationship, self exploration, insight, and meaningful change can occur. Dr. Ellis primarily takes a relational psychodynamic approach in therapy, but continually assesses the needs of each unique individual\/family and adapts her interventions and approaches to best fit her clients based on their preferences, personalities, and current psychological research. Dr. Ellis often incorporates evidence-based therapeutic strategies from relational-cultural theory, time-limited psychodynamic theory, acceptance and commitment therapy, and family systems.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Ellis provides play, individual, couples, and family psychotherapy. She has experience with a variety of presenting concerns including trauma, depression, anxiety, identity development, relational difficulty, and adjustment concerns. She is also passionate about conducting psychological evaluations with children, adolescents, and adults. She has experience with assessments focused on cognitive functioning, academic performance, attention\/concentration problems, mood concerns, and diagnostic clarification.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #d49c35;\"><strong><u>Educational and Career Background<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Dr. Ellis received her Ph.D. in counseling psychology with an emphasis in child and family psychology from the University of North Texas. Dr. Ellis has worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient and outpatient community mental health, college counseling, and private practice. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at John-Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Within these settings, she has provided group and individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults. Additionally, she has conducted comprehensive psychological assessments both inpatient and outpatient for children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Ellis\u2019 research focuses on attachment theory and relational spirituality. Her master\u2019s thesis specifically explored attachment to God, resilience, and posttraumatic growth, and her dissertation explored spiritual\/religious abuse and trauma. She is passionate about understanding the positive and negative impacts one\u2019s religious and spiritual identities, and emphasizes the importance of addressing and exploring these identities in therapy. Dr. Ellis completed her postdoctoral fellowship hours at Great Life Counseling Center under the supervision of Dr. Kevin C. Lambert, Psy.D., MBA.
