INTRODUCING Dr. Abbott

Dr. Amanda Abbott (née Proctor) is a Texas licensed psychologist who provides a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental therapeutic environment where you can expect to be treated with kindness, appropriately challenged, and supported on your journey to building a more satisfying and meaningful life. Dr. Abbott believes it is important to provide evidence-based treatment informed by your values, culture, and collaboratively developed goals. Dr. Abbott can utilize the following therapies depending on your interest and recommended treatment plan: Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Cognitive processing therapy (CPT), Emotion-focused therapy (EFT), Existential therapy, Exposure therapy, or Mindfulness.

Dr. Abbott’s clinical specialties include therapy for trauma, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression and other mood disorders, relationship difficulties, and adjustment to life changes. Dr. Abbott has specialized training and interest in working with young adults, survivors of sexual trauma, and veterans. Dr. Abbott also conducts formal psychological evaluations with adults for assessment of differential diagnosis, personality, attention issues, and/or career strengths.

Education and Career Background

Dr. Abbott received her bachelor’s degree in psychology with honors from The University of Texas at Austin. She then earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from Baylor University following completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Central Texas Veterans Health Care System. She has experience providing therapy and psychological assessments to diverse populations in a wide range of settings including university and community outpatient clinics, military behavioral health, VA hospitals, and telehealth. Dr. Abbott joined the Great Life Counseling Center team in 2020 as a Postdoctoral Fellow.

Dr. Abbott is a Licensed Psychologist (LP) with the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (TX License #38835 under Amanda Proctor, Psy.D., expires 9/30/2025).
