Dr. Amanda Abbott, Psy.D., provides a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental therapeutic environment where you can expect to be treated with kindness, appropriately challenged, and supported on your journey to building a more satisfying and meaningful life. Dr. Abbott believes it is important to provide evidence-based treatment informed by your culture, values, and collaboratively developed treatment goals. Her approach to therapy utilizes cognitive behavioral and emotion-focused interventions, mindfulness and acceptance practices, and interpersonal therapies.
Dr. Abbott’s clinical specialties include psychodiagnostics assessment and therapy for trauma, anxiety, depression and other mood disorders, relationship difficulties, sexual functioning, health behavior change, and long-term patterns of problematic behavior and emotional difficulties. Dr. Abbott enjoys working with individuals of all ages and has specialized training in working with veteran populations, survivors of sexual trauma, and couple relationships after trauma. Dr. Abbott also conducts formal psychological evaluations with adults and children for assessment of differential diagnosis, personality, learning difficulties and/or attention issues.
Education and Career Background
Dr. Amanda Abbott, Psy.D., earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology with honors from The University of Texas at Austin. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Baylor University following completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Central Texas Veterans Health Care System. She has experience providing therapy and psychological assessments to a diverse population of children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, and groups in a wide range of settings including university and community outpatient clinics, military behavioral health, VA hospitals, and telehealth. Dr. Abbott is a postdoctoral fellow at Great Life Counseling Center under the supervision of Dr. Nikki Stillo, Ph.D.
