She is dedicated to building strong therapeutic relationships with her clients, and works to provide a safe, validating, and supportive yet challenging environment to promote personal growth. Dr. Mena’s clinical specialties include working with adolescents and young adults on issues related to depression, anxiety, difficulty adjusting to life transitions, and relationship conflict. Her therapeutic style has been described as warm, genuine, empathic, and understanding. In addition to therapy, she is experienced in conducting psychological assessments with children, adolescents, and adults.
Educational and Career Background
Dr. Mena’s passion for counseling began early in her undergraduate career when an introductory psychology class sparked a strong interest in the human experience. In 2007, Dr. Mena earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA. After completing her undergraduate studies, she worked for several years in a school-based childcare program in Springfield, VA. This further solidified her interest in attending graduate school for training in clinical interventions. In 2017, Dr. Mena received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the APA-accredited program at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. She most recently completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at Wasatch Mental Health in Provo, Utah. She has had extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in integrated community mental health settings as well as a university psychological clinic. Dr. Mena will be primarily supervised by Dr. Nikki Stillo as she completes the postdoctoral clinical hours needed to obtain full licensure in the state of Texas (anticipated August 2018).
