INTRODUCING DR. GIOVINO

Roger Giovino, PsyD., is a Texas Licensed Psychologist who has experience, and enjoys working with, Children, Adolescents, and Adults. Dr. Giovino works from a trauma informed perspective and prioritizes tailoring interventions based on the individual’s unique contextual factors (e.g., age, ethnicity, environment, religion, personal interests, and strengths). In conjunction with Dr. Giovino’s utilization of trauma informed therapies, he also utilizes a variety of evidence-based treatments that include cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal strategies to help each individual better manage their symptoms. Dr. Giovino believes that an essential component of the theraputic process is developing and maintaining a strong theraputic relationship with each client. Dr. Giovino places an emphasis on creating a strong collaborative relationship with each of his clients by forming a safe, nonjudgmental, supportive, and warm environment where each client can explore their thoughts and emotions. Dr. Giovino’s approach to therapy allows his clients to work through the theraputic process at their own pace. Dr. Giovino has experience working with a diverse range of concerns including (but not limited to) trauma, depression, anxiety, personaility disorders (e.g., borderline personality disorder), dissociation, conduct problems, and behavioral difficulties.

 

Education and Career Background:

Dr. Giovino received his Psy.D. in clinical psychology from Nova Southeastern University (NSU) following the completion of his pre-doctoral APA-accredited Internship at the South Florida Internship Consortium’s Broward Sheriff’s Office in Fort Lauderdale, FL. During his graduate school career, he completed his therapy training working with complex trauma in children and adults at NSU’s Psychology Service Center’s Child and Adolescent Traumatic Stress Program (CATSP) and Trauma Resolution and Integration Program (TRIP). He also provided services at a residential medical facility (i.e., Broward Children’s Center) for children and young adults with complex medical diagnoses.  In addition, Dr. Giovino was employed as a mobile therapist at Children’s Service Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA. In those settings, Dr. Giovino performed individual, family, and group psychotherapy. In addition, Dr. Giovino has experience implementing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Contextual Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Giovino also has experience utilizing a wide range of psychological assessments, including personality, and intelligence assessments. Dr. Giovino completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship year at Great Life Counseling Center.
